Krystal Beach Hotel is great for business or leisure

By Abre on October 25, 2018
Gordons’ Bay is one of South Africa’s best kept secrets and if you choose to explore the area, then stay at the Krystal Beach Hotel.

This large hotel is situated on Harbour Island in Gordon’s Bay. The front of the hotel, although imposing, is austere and does not give an indication of the grandeur to be found within or on the delights to be found at the restaurant and pool decks.

On entering the hotel, the first thing you notice is that it is extremely spacious – and this carries through the entire hotel.

My contemporarily-decorated suite came with a substantial lounge, big balcony, large bedroom and a bathroom with his and hers basins, shower and bath. As this was a business trip, I was thankful for the fast Wi-Fi, desk and expresso coffee machine found in the suite.

Once settled in, I explored the rest of the hotel and found the foyer opened onto an equally roomy art gallery, a surreal wooden schooner (i.e. the Captain’s Table Restaurant), the Krystal Bar with coffee & cake station, and the Krystal Restaurant. The art gallery was amazing with a mixture of sculptures and paintings in various mediums.

At this point, I ventured past the magnificent water feature onto the deck and wished that I was on holiday! The deck is huge with a view across the small boat harbour full of gleaming, sporty vessels. To the right, stack doors allow the restaurant to spill out onto the deck, and to the left one discovers the delightful Oh La La Cocktail Lounge. Follow the boardwalk and you come across a host of other restaurants. I settled at the Oh La La, did some business on my phone and soaked up the sun with a frosty local craft beer in hand.

On my way back to my room, I stopped off at the first floor Krystal Komfort Spa & Pool Deck. The gleaming swimming pool, array of deck chairs and great view made me think that I needed to return to Krystal Beach Hotel for a family holiday.

The large and well-kitted gym, another floor up, enjoys the same awesome view as the decks below. I also managed to have a look at some of the other rooms and suites and noticed that the hotel’s 112 rooms come in a variety of family-sized suites and business-styled rooms.

Dinner and breakfast were delicious with the chef on hand to offer advice.  Read more about the Krystal Beach Hotel restaurants in our September edition.
